Code of Conduct

Draft code of conduct template for the Nuxel project, covering expected behavior, scope, reporting, and enforcement.

Draft policy

This Code of Conduct is maintained with the Nuxel project and may be revised as the community and its processes evolve. It is a community policy, not a legal contract.

Nuxel is built in public by people with different backgrounds, experience levels, and opinions about how software should work. This Code of Conduct sets the standard for participating in that work.

Our pledge

We are committed to making participation in the Nuxel project a harassment-free, respectful experience for everyone, regardless of experience level, identity, background, ability, or device preference.

We want a project space where hard technical questions are welcome, disagreement stays focused on evidence and design, and every participant is treated with dignity. That standard applies to how we treat one another, not to whether we agree.

Expected behavior

Everyone participating in Nuxel spaces is expected to:

  • Show empathy. Remember that there is a person behind every message, patch, review, and bug report. Assume that people are acting in good faith until there is a clear reason to think otherwise.
  • Give constructive technical criticism. Critique code, decisions, evidence, and documentation rather than people. Explain the problem and, where possible, suggest a path forward.
  • Credit others. Acknowledge ideas, reports, testing, documentation, and code that came from someone else. Do not present another person's work as your own.
  • Respect boundaries. Stop behavior that another participant has asked you to stop. Respect requests for privacy, personal space, and focused project-only communication.
  • Assume good intent while accepting correction. Ask a clarifying question before assuming malice, and listen when someone tells you that your words or actions had a harmful impact. Adjust your behavior rather than arguing about intent.

Unacceptable behavior

The following behaviors are not acceptable in Nuxel spaces:

  • Harassment. Offensive comments, intimidation, stalking, unwanted attention, or repeated intrusion into someone's work or private life.
  • Discrimination. Exclusion or hostility based on identity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, or socioeconomic status.
  • Threats. Threats of violence, retaliation, or other harm, whether they are made explicitly or implied.
  • Doxxing. Publishing or threatening to publish private information such as a person's address, contact details, employer, or identity without consent.
  • Sexualized attention. Unwelcome sexual comments, imagery, advances, or attention directed at another participant.
  • Sustained disruption. Deliberately derailing discussions, spamming, repeatedly reopening closed decisions without new evidence, or preventing others from participating.
  • Retaliation. Punishing or targeting someone for raising a concern, supporting a report, or participating in a review.

This list is illustrative, not exhaustive. Maintainers may act on other conduct that undermines a safe, respectful project space.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies in project repositories, chat channels, issue trackers, code reviews, events, and any public space where someone represents Nuxel. It covers maintainers, contributors, testers, and other participants.

It also applies when someone uses a project channel to contact another participant about project work. Using private messages or alternate accounts does not remove the expectation to treat people with respect.

Reporting

A private reporting channel is not configured for this deployment. Do not post sensitive reports publicly.

Without a private project address, do not put personal details, identities, or sensitive evidence in public issues, reviews, or chat threads. If you are unsure whether a report is sensitive, treat it as sensitive.

Enforcement

Maintainers are responsible for applying this Code of Conduct. Depending on the severity, context, and history of an incident, they may:

  • Clarify expectations for the behavior and the standard the project requires.
  • Issue a warning with a clear explanation of what must change.
  • Remove content that violates this policy or exposes private information.
  • Temporarily restrict participation in project spaces for a defined period.
  • Permanently ban a participant when behavior is severe or continues after warnings.

Decisions are made proportionately and documented in the project's moderation record. Maintainers should explain the decision to the people affected where it is safe and appropriate to do so. A maintainer with a personal or professional conflict of interest should recuse themselves from the decision.

Attribution

This Code of Conduct is specific to the Nuxel project and was inspired by common open-source community standards. It does not reproduce a third-party policy verbatim.
